Anna
Phillips work is inspired by what’s happening in society that she feels is
relevant in her own life. Her
latest
piece “Void” covers 5 different adjectives - Vulnerability, Fear, Lust,
Obsession and Collection; and was influenced by artists such as David Hockney and Gilbert+George. The piece began by looking at
ideas of how men collect women that they've slept with, but it actually grew
more into
how people
collect, and obsess over things to fill void spaces in our life, striving to
achieve perfection. In this piece she creates vulnerability through the motion
blurred photographs.
Her
aim
was to make you feel seduced into this space as a viewer, leaving you feeling
slightly vulnerable because of this. The intensity of the colour and the mass
of photographs brings out the ideas of obsession, altogether leaving you
feeling uncomfortable by presenting us with the everyday and emotions attached
to these, when in reality we do not wish to face them.
