Sam portraits are the development of work
he has been working on since his first year. He is looking closely at how he
can advance his skills and techniques through portrait distortion. Sam describes his work as eye-catching as the
result of the intense stare at the viewer from the subject in the painting. The
direct gaze brings the subject out of the painting, making it more realistic.
This inability to escape the stare makes the viewer feel uncomfortable.
Describing how he achieved this effect of
the intense stare said: “I enhanced this effect of the eyes by editing the
image on Photoshop to degrade the other colours to enhance the green. I found
this effect adds to the effect of the viewer feeling the distress found within
the portrait.”
